With the conclusion of Dembele’s departure from Barcelona and his consequent arrival to French side Paris Saint-Germain seeming to be close, it is now the right time for Barcelona to assess their alternatives as they continue to do so.
Losing arguably Xavi’s preferred and most trusted winger in an unexpected turn of events will most certainly be a sporting blow to FC Barcelona. However, the Catalan club seems to be looking at various contingencies should that scenario end up materializing into reality.
One such player that both FC Barcelona and Xavi Hernandez have endorsed since a long time is Manchester City and Portugal National team star Bernardo Silva, who continues to be one of the most sought-after talents in European football.
According to a recent report by Spanish outlet SPORT, it is claimed that Bernardo Silva is almost ‘desperate’ to join FC Barcelona, but the operation itself has several difficulties that make the chances of that occurring quite unlikely this summer.
The report suggests that Barcelona claims the transfer to be ‘almost impossible’ at the moment, given that both the transfer fee that Manchester City would demand is unfeasible for Barcelona at the moment as well as being unable to accommodate the player within their current salary limits.
The transfer of Ousmane Dembele potentially holds a lot of weight in the possibility of such a massive operation and the subsequent funds that PSG will have agreed to pay for the arrival of the 26-year-old winger could prove to be essential in Barca’s own consequent operations.
However, SPORT does highlight that Bernardo Silva continues to maintain hope that a possible transfer to Barcelona could end up materializing for the 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder.
At the moment, given the inability of FC Barcelona to completely devote themselves to the transfer of Bernardo Silva, the Catalan club will first hope to conclude departures such as those of Dembele before making any final decisions on the front of potential arrivals to the club.
