FC Barcelona came into this summer transfer window of 2023 hoping to ensure the arrivals of some of their most sought-after transfer targets but the situation has evolved in a manner that has arguably become unfavourable for Barcelona.
Initially, even the departure of French winger Ousmane Dembele was not on the cards at FC Barcelona yet the Catalans were still pursuing a certain 28-year-old midfielder from Manchester City as a priority target.
However, with the departure of the 26-year-old French winger having materialized, Barcelona began pursuing the arrival of said 28-year-old Bernardo Silva much more seriously and with much more urgency to the operation.
Yet, as is being reported by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the longer the rumored operation continues, the less likely it becomes that the Portuguese star would join Barcelona at any point during this summer transfer window.
As it stands, the official start of the English Premier League season is right around the corner and given that Bernardo Silva remains committed to Manchester City despite having requested manager Pep Guardiola to let him leave for Barcelona, the player will most likely remain with the Citizens.
Moreover, the Portuguese star is soon going to be presented with the option to renew with Manchester City, and the longer it takes Barcelona to finally figure out if they are going to conclude this operation or not, the more likely it is that Bernardo Silva ends up renewing with the Citizens while Barcelona will have to relocate their interests elsewhere.
Despite the formal offer sent by Barcelona to Manchester City reportedly worth €60 million in fixed amounts for the 28-year-old midfielder with a reported additional €10 million in variables, the Catalan club’s advance was rejected by the English club as they continue to reiterate that their player is not for sale and remains a fundamentally crucial part of their upcoming plans.
Barcelona will likely keep trying to find out a possible solution to bring Bernardo Silva over to Spain, but as MD reports, the operation is becoming more complex and while it still does not become impossible, it has reached an extremely heightened level of difficulty in its nature.
