FC Barcelona have been one of the best exploiters of the free agent market in recent seasons. While some of this may have stemmed from the need for reinforcements amid financial difficulties, the club has pulled off some incredible deals.

Andreas Christensen, Ilkay Gundogan, and Inigo Martinez arrived to Barcelona on free transfers and have since gone on to become key facets of the club. Gundogan might be back at Manchester City but his one season at the Blaugrana club is worth remembering.

Franck Kessie was another free agent who had his moments in a Barcelona shirt but benefitted the club more when he left and earned them a transfer fee. There have also been a few misses like Marcos Alonso while the jury is still out on Eric Garcia.

Now, as per SPORT, Barcelona could attempt to grab another key player as a free agent in the upcoming summer transfer window. The player in question here is Jonathan Tah who plays for Bayer Leverkusen and was on the Catalan club’s radar back in the summer.

Barcelona even submitted a €20m bid for him back in the summer but a transfer did not materialize. It has since emerged that the Spanish club is in the race to sign the 28-year-old on a Bosman transfer next season.

The report indicates that Tah is clear about his intentions not to continue with Bayer Leverkusen beyond this season.

In addition to the concrete interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, several Premier League clubs are also eyeing the German international, keeping the race for his signature wide open.

While Barcelona is well-stacked in the center-back department, missing the chance to sign a defender of Jonathan Tah’s quality for free would be a mistake. The Catalans should make every effort to land the German defender, as he would be an incredible addition to the squad and is already familiar with working under Hansi Flick.
