There have been a lot of different transfer targets for FC Barcelona throughout the summer. Despite still being limited in terms of how much they can spend, Barça made sure to poke around as much as possible. However, in the hunt for market opportunities, Barcelona highlighted a few key targets.

Even before the summer had started, there were reports suggesting that Barcelona wanted a new pivot. For previous coach Xavi Hernandez, the incorporation of a new pivot was fundamental to help his team play in the way that he wanted them to. Unfortunately, that request from Xavi was never rewarded with anything.

However, one name that was constantly linked to Barça while Xavi was still in charge and even after he left was that of Joshua Kimmich. The 29-year-old Bayern Munich midfielder was reportedly having issues with his club and these could have potentially paved the way for Barça to snatch him up.

With time, however, priorities have changed for the Catalan club. As a result of that, even the player himself can no longer afford to wait for Barcelona to sort out their own issues. Consequently, as highlighted by SPORT, Kimmich is now closer than ever to renewing with Bayern and staying right where he is.

Following Bayern’s recent 2-1 victory over English side Tottenham Hotspur in a friendly game over in Korea, Kimmich even took out some time to address the concerns about his future:

“In general, I feel very comfortable here. My children were born here, we built a home. Of course, last season was not good. It’s not what I or Bayern want. Now I’m hungry, and full of energy.”

With Barcelona not likely to enter that picture again, it appears that the best course of action for Kimmich would be to stay right where he is. Now that Vincent Kompany has arrived at the Bavarian club, bringing his own ideas along in the process, there is a new ideology to look forward to for the player.
