The heavyweights of Europe continue to aspire for greatness similar to Barcelona and the objectives of the Catalans themselves. The competition is fierce, and it is expected to be a long summer ahead.
As Barcelona look to upgrade their squad and assemble together a team that can compete for the greatest prizes in Europe, and for that to happen, the Catalans need elite-level signings.
As per German outlet Abendzeitung however, it seems that one of the biggest names on the Barcelona wish list may be headed in a slightly different direction, despite the fact that this other direction may just be towards Spain as well.
Following the end of his loan at FC Bayern Munich, 29-year-old Portuguese right-back Joao Cancelo will make his way back towards his parent club in the English Premier League, Manchester City, as he remains contracted to the Blues of Manchester until 2027 amidst various sorts of interest beginning to pile up for his services from all across Europe.
While Bayern do appreciate his quality, they are currently unwilling to pay the €70 million that Manchester City demand in exchange for his permanent transfer. On the other hand, Barcelona are unable to pay such a significant transfer fee at the moment and instead are hopeful of a possible loan deal coming into fruition.
According to the report, however, it is believed that the Portuguese fullback considers his ideal destination to be that of Real Madrid, eternal El Clasico rivals of FC Barcelona. Moreover, it is speculated that Real Madrid indeed have the necessary funds available to make such a signing should it end up materializing.
While the right-back position is not of the utmost importance at the moment, Barcelona have still shortlisted certain candidates and examined the options they already possess in that position so as to make adjustments over the summer if they may need to at any point.
