Barcelona have made one high-profile signing this summer – Dani Olmo who they are yet to register for La Liga. Despite this promising to be a big summer for the club, the reality has been quite different.
The club has faced similar problems to what they have in the past few seasons. Struggling to shift out the deadwood in the squad is preventing Barcelona from making new signings with no guarantee of registering them.
One player they’ve wanted to bring to the club is Joao Cancelo, who spent last season on loan at the club. We covered a story outlining the three conditions Man City had to send their player out on loan again. However, as per SPORT, the Portuguese fullback’s future lies further away from Barcelona as things stand.
Barcelona’s current finances do not allow them to sort out another loan for the player unless he reduces his salary massively. Now, as per the Guardian, Saudi club Al-Hilal have made a strong offer to sign the 30-year-old.
Should Cancelo accept the offer, he would have the chance to unite with Neymar Jr. who plays for the SPL club. Man City are unlikely to make life difficult regarding an exit considering he doesn’t feature in their plans.
Al-Hilal’s starting right-back Saud Abdulhamid could leave the club this summer with offers from Reims and Roma, setting the path up for Cancelo to move there. It remains to be seen what the 30-year-old thinks of the same.
Cancelo was quite consistent at Barcelona last season but was often found wanting in big games. The Portuguese right-back is a luxury to have against teams that defend with a low block which is what the Catalan club face in most of their La Liga games.
With a contract until 2027, Man City might be open to letting Cancelo leave on another loan deal. Just like last summer, there is a chance that this transfer could go right into the deadline day and Barcelona might ultimately be able to convince the club to keep the Portuguese international for one more season.
