As Barcelona continue their own manhunt for a new defensive pivot, they are left at a dead end of sorts when it comes to most of their top priorities from elite European sides either due to their financial inabilities or sporting complications.
Players such as Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad reportedly remain adamant on staying at their respective clubs, while other targets are simply out of reach from Barcelona’s financial capabilities.
From the latter reasoning sprouts the new destination of a particular Croatian midfielder, who due to Barca’s inability to present a formal offer within the limited time frame will now be headed to the Middle East.
The player being referenced is Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic, who is set to move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr as the two entities are expected to soon wrap up the operation as a whole according to SPORT.
From earlier reports suggesting that negotiations had stalled and talks were becoming complicated between the two, it appears now that an agreement is imminent.
As per the reported details, the player is set to earn a total of €100 million across the three seasons that he is set to play in Saudi Arabia and it is speculated that this figure was increased following pressure from the player’s side.
Moreover, Al-Nassr also reportedly took advantage of potentially no other buyers competing for the transfer of Brozovic and brought down their presented transfer fee offer from €23 million all the way down to €18 million.
With the transfer of Brozovic to Al-Nassr now seeming to be only a matter of time, Barcelona must continue to scout elsewhere to find their arrival for the pivot position, and reports suggest it could be a particular player from Spanish side Girona who ends up making the cut.
