Barcelona have come to realize the urgency with which they must attempt to secure a top-level addition within the team to compensate for the loss of one of their most iconic talent and player. The position in question is that of central defensive midfield, which the Catalans must address as soon as possible.
The options on the table for a potential replacement for Sergio Busquets included the likes of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, and Real Betis’s Guido Rodriquez among certain others.
However, either due to financial reasons or sporting differences, a majority out of this list is no longer feasible for Barcelona to continue pursuing. However, there is one particular midfielder that the Catalans now feel most drawn to for certain reasons.
According to the most recent by SPORT, Croatian midfielder and Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic now becomes the number one target for Barcelona when it comes to their Sergio Busquets replacement hunt. The 30-year-old continues to remain as one of Europe’s best defensive midfielders and has now become a feasible option for Barcelona.
Valued at approximately €25 million and contracted to the Serie A side until 2026, Barcelona are reportedly willing to offer Inter Milan €15 million for his services. On the other hand, Inter proposed the possibility of a swap deal that would see Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie head over back to Italy while the Croatian midfielder makes his way to Spain.
However, Barcelona are not exactly thrilled at this proposition and would ideally not include other players in a deal with Inter Milan for the services of Marcelo Brozovic, especially not Kessie, who they also had the option of loaning to Inter in January on similar terms but the talks broke down and the Catalans retained his services for the remainder of the season.
Even with new financially enticing offers from Saudi Arabia now accessible to Brozovic, Barcelona remain calm regarding their pursuit of the 30-year-old given that within the club it is speculated that Brozovic and his entourage, who are in contact with Barcelona, are thrilled about the opportunity of getting to represent La Blaugrana.
Negotiations are moving smoothly between all concerned parties and it’s left to see what exactly becomes of this possible operation, with Inter also interested in other Barcelona players such as the likes of Eric Garcia and Ferran Torres, who remain on the list of players that the Catalans would be looking to offload.
