Ilkay Gundogan is one such player that the club wants to bring in this summer, to provide the midfield with not only a defensive midfield outlet but also a player that can operate higher up the pitch when the need arises. The German’s experience is another factor that endears him to the Catalan club.
However, his signing has already taken a number of twists, and the operation is nowhere a simple affair for the club. His current contract with Manchester City ends this summer, and owing to his effective performances for the Citizens this season, they are trying their best to get the midfielder renewed with the club for further seasons.
Similarly, Arsenal have also joined the hunt for the skillful midfielder, and their manager, Mikel Arteta, is particularly pushing the Gunners to make a dash for the signing of Gundogan. Thus, the player’s future is still uncertain, with all three clubs vying for his signature.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona currently seem to be the favorite to get the midfielder, at least according to the reports being published in German media. They have cited Sport Bild with the claim that Gundogan wishes to go to Barcelona this summer.
However, they also mention that Pep Guardiola is pushing Manchester City to do their all to tie the midfielder for more years, and have also mentioned the inclusion of another club in the race for Gundogan, his former side Borussia Dortmund, who want Gundogan as Bellingham’s replacement.
As these different sides keep on trying to get Gundogan for the next season, the player will make a decision about his future only after playing the Champions League final against Inter Milan this Saturday.
