FC Barcelona are currently partaking in a summer transfer window that has seen the club make several recruitments already while they continue to make advancements to bring in other possible arrivals as well.
The likes of Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Girona pivot Oriol Romeu, Athletic Bilbao defender Inigo Martinez and Atletico Paranaense striker Vitor Roque have all been confirmed as new Barcelona signings, although Roque’s arrival will possibly take place in January at the earliest.
Other recruits have also included young 19-year-old Senegalese central defender Mikayil Faye, who will be expected to primarily take part in the duties of Barcelona Atletico more so than the first team.
Taking into consideration all the arrivals however as well as the players already at the disposal of Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez, it appears that Barcelona have made a decision to put one of those already at the club on the exit ramp.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, FC Barcelona have decided to put Spanish defender Marcos Alonso on the transfer list and consequently have made him available for sale.
The 32-year-old former Chelsea star is possibly considered to be surplus to requirements at the Spanish club as Barcelona already have various other players already available to provide depth to the defensive positions.
The likes of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez, Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, and possibly even young Mikayil Faye are all available options that Xavi Hernandez could deploy as the central defenders for FC Barcelona, proving that enough quality depth is already present within the club.
Moreover, while Alonso does provide cover at the left-back position whenever primary starter Alejandro Balde is unavailable, Barcelona potentially have that sorted out as well given the possibilities of a new fullback recruit or calling up players from the academy.
It remains to be seen if this emerging news is valid, and also if other clubs even intend to take the Spanish defender away from Barcelona while they continue their own hunt for other priority targets before the summer window closes at the end of August.
