Certain profiles seem to shine bright at FC Barcelona than others manage to do. This could be due to a multitude of varying reasons. Certain players attract attention simply because of their name, while others become fundamental to certain coaches.

For Xavi Hernandez, many of the players within this current Barcelona squad are crucial pieces. These players all bring a unique perspective and style to this team and manage to become indisputable. However, one man has recently become consistently relied upon by Xavi.

This man in question is none other than Inigo Martinez. According to SPORT, the Spanish central defender has become pivotal to Xavi even more than before in recent times. From the last five games, Inigo Martinez started in four. This in itself is a testament to how important he has become.

Moreover, he is the only naturally left-footed central defender that Xavi can rely upon. Adding to that fact are his undeniably accurate line-breaking passes. This particular attribute has completely changed the game for Barcelona at various points during different games.

Even in the most recent victory against Deportivo Alaves, it was a great pass from Inigo Martinez that reached Ferran Torres at a spot where he was easily able to win a penalty. That foul would ultimately win Barcelona the game and the three points.

Martinez also offers wisdom and experience in a rather young team. At 32 years of age, he is no teenage sensation, but he is a seasoned veteran. Having played in La Liga for many years, he offers guidance both on the field and in the locker room.

Xavi Hernandez himself has reiterated that Martinez was a signing that he requested personally. Having finally arrived this summer on a free, it is no wonder that the Spanish coach wanted him to come. Now, with Xavi’s faith backing him up, he has fully begun to shine.
