Andreas Christensen was one of the integral parts of the FC Barcelona defense that won them the league title last season. The Dane arrived to Barcelona as a free agent, and quickly established himself as a starter at the Catalan club.

However, with the reinforcements that have arrived at Barcelona in the last summer transfer window, it is not clear whether the Dane would retain his starting spot in Xavi’s system.

Araujo and Kounde are both favorites to play in the center of the defense this season, as Xavi will not have to play one of them on the right flank with Cancelo’s arrival.

Thus, according to SPORT, Christensen has a high demand for his services from the Premier League. Newcastle United are very interested in the player, but neither Barcelona nor the player himself is considering a move away from the Catalan club.

Despite the competition in defense at Barcelona, Christensen remains one of the most trusted center-backs for Xavi. However, this season, he will have to rotate more often with his teammates, as there are four center-backs for two spots available for Xavi, including Kounde, Araujo, Christensen, and Inigo Martinez.

Christensen expressed dissatisfaction at not being a part of the starting eleven in the game against Porto, and did not play against Real Sociedad as well. He returned to the starting eleven against Shakhtar Donetsk, but Barcelona lost that match despite being the favorites going into it.

It remains to be seen how much importance he will have in Xavi’s team in the coming matches. Still, the player is well integrated into the team, and there are no plans of a move in January, even in these complicated circumstances and the interest from the Premier League.
