One defender in particular, Andreas Christensen, is the one who has taken the biggest hit. The Danish central defender, aged 27, has lost prominence under Xavi Hernandez in recent games. In his stead, the likes of Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde have all become more frequent starters.
Hence, according to Carlos Monfort, the player’s agent met up with Barcelona Sporting Director Deco. The Danish defender’s representative, who also represents Ilkay Gundogan, was involved in an informal meeting with Deco to discuss the future prospects of both his German and Danish clients.
In the hopes of turning around his season, Christensen continues to fight for his place. Moreover, he knows that his performances work in his favor.
He continues to be a reliable and consistent player for Barcelona and it is only through certain extraordinary capabilities of the other three central defenders that keep him on the bench at times.
However, luckily for him, the season is still young. Plenty of matches and competitions are still available for Barcelona to participate in.
Having qualified for the Champions League knockout stages already, there is already a high chance that he gets to feature for Barcelona in their next European clash against Royal Antwerp as well.
Moreover, he still has a lot of chances waiting up ahead in La Liga as well given the exhausting schedule.
