With 19 games behind their backs, the Catalans are leading the league title race, comfortably, with a 5-point advantage over their bitter rivals Real Madrid.
Temporarily, it was extended to 8 points, putting pressure on the Blancos in case of a potential lapse, which eventually didn’t come as the Madridians triumphed 2-0 over Valencia on Thursday, reducing the gap to 5 points again.
With such an exceptional start to the season, with just one loss (3-1 against Real Madrid back in October 2022) and two draws (0-0 in the season opener against Rayo Vallecano and 1-1 in the Catalan derby against Espanyol on New Year’s Eve), Xavi’s team marches towards a potential historic title as if they maintain their arc, Barcelona would end up doubling their 50 points collected so far; it could be an incredible 100-point season.
Of course, the title is still far away, and we shouldn’t be blindfolded by the fact that we are in the leading position right now. There’s still a long way to go for Xavi’s Barcelona, the second – and possibly the tougher – half of the season awaits us with great challenges both on the domestic and European level. Hopefully, if we keep up the good work, it will be crowned with success. Visca Barça.
