While the current season can be considered a success, as FC Barcelona have already won the Spanish Supercup and are on course to win the La Liga title, the club is already looking ahead to further strengthen the squad for the next season. However, before any additions can be made, it is essential that the club moves away some of the players that it does not rely on heavily.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, the club has prepared a feasibility plan to strengthen the squad for next season and has estimated that it needs to make reductions of around €200 million in its wage bill and obtain an income of €100 million from sales of players that are surplus to requirements.
These objectives are required to be met if the club hopes to fulfill its main objectives for the next transfer window, i.e. signing Lionel Messi and renewing the contracts of Ronald Araujo, Gavi, Marcos Alonso, Sergi Roberto, Alejandro Balde, and Inaki Peña.
A number of players have been identified by the club, who will be sold to generate the required funds for operations in the summer transfer window. Some of the forwards who have not particularly impressed during this season, including Ansu Fati, Raphinha, and Ferran Torres, still have significant values attached to themselves in the transfer market, and their sales are expected to generate significant income for the club.
Similarly, Frank Kessie and Eric Garcia are also on the transfer list, and the club can gain significant amounts of money from their sales. While these players have been featuring in the team’s matches to some degree this season, none of them has particularly impressed. Their sales can go a long way in shedding the wage bill for the club, and generate some much-needed cash in these economically difficult times for the club.
