Fc Barcelona will have to make major auctions in the summer for economic reasons and to revamp the squad. Ter Stagen is now not among the list of untouchables after his below-par performances in recent seasons.
As per reports, the club is not satisfied with the German keeper’s overall performance and considers him a market opportunity as well. The technical department has given their okay to put his name out of the list of untouchables.
Xavi has supported the German keeper publicly when he was under constant criticism due to his poor performances in recent times.
Xavi: For us, Mark is fundamental, his commitment and dedication are excellent. At times, there are errors, he should improve in goal and he knows it, but his play with his feet is excellent”.
Ter Stegen enjoyed decent performances in the recent weeks but the technical area considers it below par for Barcelona’s standards. He did not start the season due to the knee surgery and was not performing at the level expected of him. He had a horrible start to the season where he was error-prone and conceded 32 goals in 34 games in Laliga this season which accounts for nearly a goal conceded per game. This stat doesn’t look so good for a keeper playing in a possession-based team like Barca.
The Spanish giants are looking to make use of this summer window in order to make the team capable of winning the Uefa Champions League and the inconsistent performances of Ter Stagen have put his future in doubt. The club, yet to recover from its financial struggles, would not resist selling the player if a good offer arrives. Ter Stagen is valued at 40-45 million, even though it is unlikely for any club to offer such an amount for the player in his poor form.
The backup goalkeeper Neto is also said to be looking for a move away from Barca and thus the club needs to find an emergency replacement in case they want Ter Stegan to be sold.
The chances of Ter Stegan getting sold this summer are low even though he is on the transferable list by the club, but anything can happen by the end of this window.
