FC Barcelona are well renowned for their ability to produce world-class talent from the ranks of their own academy. La Masia is a goldmine of youth footballing talent. In the most recent of times, it has produced yet another anomaly that could take football by storm.
Lamine Yamal is a 15-year-old winger from La Masia who has been grabbing headlines in recent weeks. Left-footed, operating from the right, and cutting into the inside, there is an obvious reason as to why people are comparing the youngster’s developments and projections to that of Lionel Messi from his own academy days.
The youngster has already made his debut for FC Barcelona’s first team courtesy of his massive potential and technical prowess, something beyond the extremes of what is expected at his age. Xavi Hernandez showered the young gem with praise as well following his debut.
Yet, by making a jump that big in terms of team selection, the player also missed out on opportunities in between. Now, as would have been the next progressive step for the player had he not directly been called up to the first team, the 15-year-old will participate in Barca Atletic’s upcoming game against CD Eldense, an integral game in the side’s push for the playoffs.
Called up by Rafa Marquez to represent the side, Lamine Yamal has been included in the side’s 18-man squad list that will travel to Valencia, to face the 2nd-placed team in their division in Elda.
All things considered, it is almost certain that following his official Barcelona first-team debut against Real Betis, this game against CD Eldense will undoubtedly be the 15-year-old’s official debut for Barca Atletic.
