Barcelona losing out in the race for soon-to-be-free French striker – report

Whereas FC Barcelona are currently sorting out their finances in order to pursue their various transfer targets, other sides in Europe have already begun to make their respective advancements.

Barcelona target Marcus Thuram is one of the most sought-after players in the summer of 2023. The player had a fantastic season for Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach as their primary striker, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists in the span of 32 games.

Paired with his undoubted footballing quality is the current situation of his contract with his German club. Contracted to Borussia Monchengladbach until June 30th of this year, the French striker will immediately afterwards become a free agent, and one that many elites in Europe consider a very valuable opportunity.

However, as SPORT reports, the Frenchman is currently being considered as a favorite to join French side Paris Saint Germain. The Parisians seem devoted to restructuring their side for the upcoming season with new quality recruits.

Following the departure of Lionel Messi, who Barcelona are also targeting as of right now, alongside the team’s manager, Christophe Galtier, and chances of Neymar Jr being sold also lurking behind the scenes, the club is looking to re-establish themselves in Europe with a whole new look next season, as Kylian Mbappe is also reportedly playing a big role in bringing Thuram towards the French side.

Moreover, the French striker is not the only player that has attracted mutual interest from both Barcelona and PSG. Bernardo Silva, currently contracted to English side Manchester City, is a Portuguese midfielder who also has both sides lured in to bring him to their respective squads.

As it stands, while Silva remains “plan B” for Barcelona in case they fail to bring Lionel Messi to Catalonia, for PSG he remains a top priority to replace the same departing Argentine.

Thus, FC Barcelona will have to get their finances in order as soon as possible to remain competitive in the market, and get their targets locked down before other sides scoop in for them.
