With an agreement between FC Barcelona and Ilkay Gundogan, the Catalan club has achieved one of its major summer transfer window aims. However, as the Director of Football, Mateu Alemany, indicated, the transfer activity has just begun, and the club will be looking to complete other operations to get a squad fit for competing in all competitions in the next season.

Another major objective for FC Barcelona in this summer transfer window is to get a new midfield pivot who would succeed Sergio Busquets at the club. The club is looking at several options in this regard, but one of the club’s favorites for this role is Gundogan’s international teammate, Joshua Kimmich.

According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona fans are already excited to see three of Germany’s most important players line up for the Blaugranes. If the Catalans can get Kimmich during this summer window, the club would have added both Gundogan and Kimmich to a line-up that already features the goalkeeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

This excitement is evident from the fact that a photo of the three players with the German national team is already getting viral among FC Barcelona fans, and the social media activity of Cules is filled with expectations and forecasts of the three players lining up for Barcelona. Kimmich himself has been trending on social media since the signing of Gundogan.

While the club already has Ter Stegen and is near to adding Gundogan to its squad, assembling the three stars in the FC Barcelona squad is still difficult. Kimmich himself might be open to a move towards Camp Nou; however, convincing Bayern Munich to sell him would require a herculean effort from the club.

Thus, while Kimmich’s transfer to FC Barcelona is highly complicated, the club executives have got Barcelona fans dreaming of a German trident after the agreement with Gundogan. If Laporta and his team can pull off Kimmich’s transfer as well, FC Barcelona would have a team competent enough to compete for all trophies in the next season.
