To conform with La Liga’s FFP and other financial requirements, FC Barcelona are aiming to offload a number of players in this summer transfer window who are surplus to the requirements of Xavi’s squad.

One of these players whom the club is looking to sell in the upcoming days and from whom the club aims to get some compensation is the French defender Clement Lenglet, who has been playing at Tottenham for the last season, and is also linked with the London club for a permanent transfer.

According to SPORT, Lenglet and the club are in significantly advanced negotiations, and the two parties have arrived at an agreement in principle for the transfer of the player. According to this agreement, the player will have a contract for three years at the London-based club.

However, Barcelona and Tottenham are yet to come to terms for this transfer, and despite talks having taken place between the two sides in the last few days, nothing has been finalized yet.

Tottenham have already made a serious effort to match Lenglet’s wages that he would have been able to earn by staying at Barcelona for the remaining part of his contract. The defender had been deferring his salary because of the Covid-19 pandemic and would become one of the highest-paid players in the Barcelona squad if he continues with the club.

Thus, Barcelona see his departure from the club as a high priority, and would not have much room for a bargain with Tottenham. Currently, they are contemplating a €10 million fee and bonuses as compensation for the player, but nothing is finalized and contacts between the two clubs continue.

With the agreement in principle between the player and Tottenham, FC Barcelona would be optimistic that this transfer can come to fruition, and would bring them not only a transfer fee but would also significantly lighten their wage bill going forward.
