The task of offloading fringe players is still far from its completion at FC Barcelona, as the Catalan club is facing problems finding suitors for a number of players. One player closer to an exit is center-back Clement Lenglet, but his exit operation has also hit some complications recently.

Negotiations are underway for the transfer of Clement Lenglet to Tottenham Hotspurs, where the player spent his last season on loan. However, according to SPORT, these negotiations are still far off from a conclusive agreement, and the player will be a part of the Catalan club’s pre-season camp.

Talks between the involved parties continue meanwhile, and there was a meeting this last weekend in this regard, and all of the parties understand that they will have to compromise a bit to ensure that the negotiations go through.

Currently, the London club is in talks for a three-year contract with Lenglet and has made a great financial effort to get him into the team. Lenglet might lose some money from this transfer, but Barcelona and the Frenchman are negotiating compensation, and the two sides can come to an agreement soon.

Barcelona and Tottenham have also not yet agreed to the terms of the transfer. The Premier League side wants to pay €10 million for the player, but the Catalans are holding out for €15 million. They are also looking at intermediate formulas with objectives associated with add-ons.

The Catalan club does not want the negotiations to get derailed at any cost, as Lenglet’s contract would greatly strain their wage bill. There are no other offers for the Frenchman, making these negotiations even more important for Barcelona.

The signing of Inigo Martinez means that Lenglet has no place at the backline in Barcelona. Thus, it is in favor of all parties to conclude the negotiations for the player before the start of the new campaign, as the player would otherwise have to stay with Barcelona if an agreement is not reached.

  1. I have to pick you up on a few things. I watched Lenglet play the whole of last season and I can tell you, the man cant run, takes up lousy positions and cant tackle. So I want to know exactly HOW a player like that is beneficial to ‘all parties’ Spurs in particular.
I have given over 50 years of my life supporting Spurs, and if Lenglet ends up here permanently, they can have my season ticket back and I will burn every bit of Tottenham merchandise I’ve ever bought.

That’s what I think of your precious Lenglet and I am far from being alone. I speak to hundreds of supporters who are ready to blow a gasket if this deal goes ahead!
