Barcelona currently possess arguably one of the best midfields in world football, taking into account both their depth and the respective quality of the players that are a part of it. However, the Catalan club is not without its flaws.

Having managed to secure the Spanish La Liga title last season under the leadership of Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona now look to assert their attention towards Europe as well, an aspect of their seasons in recent years where they have not been able to perform up to their expected standards.

To curb this inability to compete in the Champions League as they would otherwise hope to, Barcelona have considered recruiting players that are already established as world-class talents who have what it takes to deliver in the present.

At the moment, Barcelona are riddled with talents that are either too young to reach their potential just yet or veterans that are past their respective primes.

One player that La Blaugrana have kept in their sights for quite some time now is Portuguese international and Manchester City star Bernardo Silva, with the 28-year-old midfielder arguably being one of the very best in world football at the moment.

According to FootballTransfers(FT), Barcelona’s interest in the Portuguese superstar could end up materializing into reality as his current club, Manchester City, is simultaneously interested in Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong.

The 26-year-old Dutch midfielder is one of the jewels of Barcelona, and Manchester City are inclined to take him away from Catalonia. Consequently, the report suggests, the two sides may consider a potential swap deal between the two players that would see Bernardo Silva headed to Barcelona and Frenkie De Jong the other way.

It remains to be seen just how far this can materialize, however, given that while Bernardo Silva attracted interest from Saudi Arabia, no agreement has been reached on that front just yet. On the other hand, Barcelona have previously managed to retain Frenkie De Jong despite the arrival of many significant offers, particularly from Manchester United.
