In an unfortunate turn of events in recent days, Barcelona have had to cancel their friendly game against Italian side Juventus that was set to take place in the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on the 22nd of July.

The match was initially on track to take place as scheduled but then due to new information coming out that several of the Barcelona players had contracted some sort of viral disease or infection, most probably due to gastroenteritis.

As a result, many fans were left in dismay as they were eagerly looking forward to finally watching FC Barcelona play with a stronger squad on display. This disappointment was particularly felt by those who had already bought tickets to the game, as they were arguably the ones left most distraught when the news of the game’s cancellation was announced.

Consequently, Sergi Roberto took to his social media and publicly addressed the situation, as highlighted by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo. As the new first captain for FC Barcelona, he promptly took his first action in this role by apologizing to the disappointed fans through his Instagram story. In his message, expressed in English, he stated:”

“My apologies to all the fans who were going to attend today’s game at Levi’s stadium,”

The player attached the message along with the official post by FC Barcelona announcing the cancellation of the game. Showcasing strong character in his initial action as the primary representative of the team, the message will hopefully provide some relief to the fans.

Next up for FC Barcelona on their USA tour is a game against English Premier League side Arsenal, who famously came close to winning the Premier League last season and remain one of the country’s top sides heading into the new season. The match is scheduled to take place at the SoFi Stadium, located in Los Angeles, California.
