Barcelona to trust 16-year-old wonderkid instead of signing new winger to replace Dembele

At FC Barcelona, the consensus remains that with the departure of several quality players taking place, the Catalan club must reinvest the acquired funds to once again improve the squad to minimize the damage dealt through the departing talents.

The loss of 26-year-old French winger Ousmane Dembele, in particular, stands out for being an unwanted sale that Barcelona and particularly Xavi Hernandez would have ideally avoided had they possessed the ability to do so.

As such, the departure prompted rumors of Barcelona possibly pursuing the acquisition of a new winger to reinforce their attack in light of their French winger’s move to Parisian club PSG.

However, according to the latest update provided by Catalan journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona will not be looking to bring in another winger at this point in time and instead wish to rely on players already present within the squad.

Particularly, the dependence on young La Masia gem Lamine Yamal is set to increase according to the report. Barcelona consider the 16-year-old to be a talent worth building the team around for the next several years given his immense potential and quality at such a tender age.

The youngster was given minutes to showcase his quality during the pre-season tour to the United States of America as well, and he displayed some of his best qualities against AC Milan in the final outing for Barcelona in the United States before returning to Spain.

His explosiveness, eye for goal, and ability to unsettle defenses have made Lamine Yamal a top talent amongst the subsidiary ranks of FC Barcelona. Moreover, he has already penned down a renewal with the club that would see him remain a Barcelona player until 2026.

By not focusing on the arrival of a winger, Barcelona can instead divert their attention towards the possible acquisitions of a midfielder and right-back, which remain the priority positions to reinforce for the Catalan club.
