Agent unhappy with the release clause of recent Barcelona acquisition

One of the highlights of this summer transfer window for FC Barcelona was the signing of the Brazilian Vitor Roque. The player has officially signed with the Catalan club, but it is not yet decided whether he will come to Spain in this window or in the winter.

The player’s agent, Andre Cury, was naturally one of the main partakers in materializing his transfer to Barcelona, as he helped his client get to his favorite football club.

The agent had a detailed interview with Diario AS, in which he touched upon a number of aspects of Roque’s move to Barcelona. One such aspect was the contract that Roque signed with his new club, under which he will remain at Barcelona for seven seasons and will have a release clause of €500 million.

However, Roque’s agent does not seem to be too happy with this release clause. When asked about his client’s release clause at Barcelona, he commented in this latest interview:

“…500 million, better than Neymar’s (€222 million release). I would put 1 billion in it. Today €500 is nothing. One of these Arabs could come along and pay without hesitation. Goodbye (laughs).”

Cury has definitely got a point, as Vitor Roque has got huge potential, and his development indicates that the player is going to explode in the coming years. While he is yet to play in Europe, one cannot doubt the potential and the room for further growth that the player has shown with the Brazil team at different levels and also with his club, Athletico Paranaense.

As Cury commented, Barcelona have already experienced losing one of their most important players with a €222 million release clause to PSG. They are already facing a similar fate with Dembele and should have put in a significantly higher release clause for Roque in order to deter any rich clubs from trying to lure the Brazilian away without Barcelona’s consent.
