Barcelona to receive financial boost as former midfielder could potentially be sold – report

FC Barcelona understand that the current market in which they participate will be one where most of their targets for the summer will likely attract significant sums in order to be lured away from their current clubs.

In light of the rather sudden departure of 26-year-old French winger Ousmane Dembele to Ligue 1 outfit Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona are left without one of their biggest stars to count on for the upcoming season.

As a result, Barcelona have already made a shortlist of sorts in order to assess which positions they wish to reinforce but the primarily hurdle that arises in the way of achieving their most desired objectives is their financial situation and the economic restrictions that come along with it.

Consequently, the Catalan club will look favourable upon any source of revenue generation that they can find, and one such source could be a particular sale made by English Premier League outfit Aston Villa.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, the recent interest of a Qatari club has now joined the prior inquiries of interest from Saudi Arabian clubs as well for Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

In the scenario that a ‘good’ proposal arrives for the 31-year-old, he would possible leave Aston Villa as per the report. For Barcelona, a potential sale would mean additional generation of funds.

Within the agreement made between Barcelona and Aston Villa for the sale of Coutinho to the English club in 2022, Barcelona included a sell-on clause that would see them earn 50% out of the capital gain of however much was earned as profit by Villa.

Since the player’s sale to Villa cost the English club close to €20 million, if the player is sold for €40 million Barcelona will receive €10 million out of the overall capital gain of €20 million on top of the original transfer fee that Villa had spent on his arrival.

Not an extravagant amount, but one that could be useful to Barcelona as it is due to the nature of their current problems with Financial fair play. Any amount of financial injection at this point could help the Catalan club generate more space within their financial allowance to work on other operations.
