The most recent bout that FC Barcelona took part in saw the Catalan club only take away a singular point from the clash against Getafe CF at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez in a game that saw an unnecessary amount of physicality and disruptive play.
Leaving the game, Barcelona would not have been disappointed with only the result but also the repercussions of several red cards that were shown during the game, with two of them having been directed towards representatives of FC Barcelona.
One of the two was Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez, who was ejected from the game due to protesting. His ban is expected to keep him away from the technical area for two games.
On the other hand, however, is the case of Brazilian winger Raphinha, whose red card arrived at the 42nd-minute mark as a consequence of the 26-year-old having elbowed Gaston Alvarez blatantly during the game.
A reckless decision by the Barcelona winger, it could now cost him two to three games in terms of suspension from an action that could have been easily avoided and was entirely unnecessary.
Understandably, backlash towards the player has been consistent since that point as fans remain agitated by his decision that arguably cost Barcelona a proper chance to win the game and could have even costed the Catalans much more than just a draw.
The player has since taken to Instagram to make a public apology to the club, his teammates, and the Culers who remain frustrated with his action, stating:
“Well, I would like to come here and apologize to my teammates, the staff, the fans, and everyone who follows me here on Instagram. I made a mistake and it could have cost the team more.”
He continued:
“It’s not the way I wanted to start the season. I am aware and responsible for what happened last night, we learn to improve from mistakes and I will undoubtedly improve from mine.”
Lastly, he provided assurance that his dedication to the club and the Barcelona badge is absolute and he will do his best to make up for his costly error:
“Many of you might be hating me now, but that won’t stop me from giving my best for this jersey. I am a fan and I will continue to be one of you. I hope to make up for my mistake as much as possible with and for this badge.”
Barcelona next welcome Cadiz to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium for their second clash of the official 2023/2024 La Liga campaign, and the Catalan outfit will have to come up with a game plan that does not involve Raphinha in it nor the influence of Xavi Hernandez on the touchline.
