FC Barcelona come away with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz CF that sees the Catalan giants win their first game of the official La Liga EA Sports season and mark their first win of the campaign.
Despite an obviously difficult defense to overcome, the Blaugranes managed to score two goals and emerge as the victors in the first game played at the new temporary Barcelona home stadium, the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium. Here is how the players fared:
Player Ratings:
Ter Stegen: 8.0
Was the point of difference at various moments where he managed to keep Cadiz out of the gaping Barcelona net due to defensive errors. Deserves the high praise he will likely get for his performance in this game.
Alejandro Balde: 6.0
Almost invisible in terms of his impact. The Spanish youngster had little to no chances or opportunities coming his way nor did he do much with the openings that he was presented with.
Andreas Christensen: 6.5
The Danish defender was caught napping at times and arguably gave a performance not exactly up to the mark that he has typically displayed with Barcelona over the course of the last season.
Frenkie De Jong: 8.0
Magical to watch at times, the Dutchman carried the ball, made great defensive decisions, connected some dangerous passes for his teammates, and was always an open outlet to pass to. Great performance.
Jules Kounde: 7.0
The Frenchman was solid at right-back as he has once again had to cover for the lack of a specialist, especially in the absence of Ronald Araujo who is out injured for now.
Oriol Romeu: 7.5
The new arrival was great at holding his own and won some crucial duels for the Catalan giants. His technical and physical aspects have both been solid additions to the Barcelona team and he continues to prosper.
Ilkay Gundogan: 8.5
Seemed to be at the right place at the right time throughout the game. Created some of the most dangerous Barcelona chances while also providing the brilliant assist that finally unlocked the Cadiz structure to allow Pedri to score.
Pedri: 8.5
Broke the deadlock and ended up giving Barcelona the lead. His performance, alongside that of Ilkay Gundogan, gave Barcelona both control and threat whenever they had possession of the ball much more so than the other teammates around them.
Gavi: 6.5
The youngster was active and continued to put pressure on Cadiz, but unfortunately was not able to impact the game much while he remained on the pitch.
Lewandowski: 6.5
The Polish striker was again rather disappointing for most of the game. Hesitant when it came to his shooting and slow to react in moments where the Barcelona striker previously was known to be decisive. Did provide the assist for Barca’s second goal, however.
Lamine Yamal: 8.0
Dazzling and unnerving for Cadiz CF to deal with, the 16-year-old Barcelona youngster makes history with the Catalan giants as their youngest-ever La Liga debutant with a classy display to match it.
Substitutes:
Ez Abde: 6.5
Abde looked quite promising at times and even was the only forward on certain occasions to really test Ledesma and continue to dismantle the well-organized Cadiz defense.
Ansu Fati: 6.5
Made a wayward attempt at goal that he may or may not have otherwise scored, but other than that showcased great running and even scored another goal that was ruled out by Lewandowski being offside.
Ferran Torres: 7.0
Ended up scoring the second goal for Barcelona not too long after coming on following a great run and solid left-footed finish to seal the game.
Sergi Roberto: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
Eric Garcia: N/A
Not enough time or influence on the game to warrant a rating.
