FC Barcelona have one key transfer operation that remains quite advanced and involves a certain Portuguese star whose arrival the Catalan giants eagerly wait for in order to finalize a squad still missing some key components.

Head coach Xavi Hernandez has insisted that a full-back specialist would be a necessary addition at Barcelona this season in order for the Catalan giants to be at their competitive best. As such, the Blaugranes are heavily invested in a fullback from English Premier League side Manchester City who is the priority target for Barcelona.

Hailing from Portugal and having represented the national team, 29-year-old Joao Cancelo plays as a right-footed fullback for both the Portugal National team and Manchester City, with the capability of being deployed on either flank as well as possessing great vision and technical ability, something that perfectly suits Barcelona.

His arrival at the club is considered to be just a matter of time, as per several reliable sources. However, Spanish journalist Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo has provided a major update regarding the Cancelo operation stating that it could look to be finalized between FC Barcelona and Manchester City either by today or tomorrow, within the coming hours.

According to several other reports recently, the Catalans are still to be given the green light in order for Cancelo to make his trip to Spain and finally meet up with the officials of FC Barcelona. For now, he remains stranded in Portugal according or some sources.

Barcelona could also potentially still need to find other outlets for additional funds as well as possibly need to clear up additional salary margin to be able to incorporate Cancelo within the team as per the rulings of FFP.

The revenue being generated through certain sales of assets, such as club projects and players, is still yet to be finalized in certain scenarios that would then hypothetically allow FC Barcelona to more easily facilitate the arrival of Cancelo.

Despite any hurdles that have continued to come up concerning the Cancelo operation, all parties involved remain optimistic regarding the arrival of Cancelo at FC Barcelona, and the Catalan giants remain assured that he will soon be a player for Barcelona.
