FC Barcelona played their fourth match of the 2023-24 La Liga season last night. The match ended in a 2-1 victory for Barcelona, as the Catalans left it late to grab an equalizer from a Lewandowski penalty.

This match will be memorable for several Barcelona players, especially those who made their debuts with the Catalan team. Inigo Martinez was able to make his first appearance for Barcelona only last night, as he was recovering from physical problems earlier.

Similarly, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, both of whom completed their moves to Barcelona on the deadline day, also made their debuts.

Felix finally steps on the pitch

The match last night was particularly special for Joao Felix, as he finally made an appearance in a competitive game after a long time. The young forward did not play even a single minute for his last club, Atletico Madrid, during their pre-season.

His presence in the Mattress Makers’ team was even lesser in competitive games, as he had not even dressed for a game since the start of the season.

In fact, Felix last dressed for a game on June 17th, and that was also for his national side as Portugal faced Bosnia for their Euro qualifier match. Thus, it had been around two and a half months since Felix played an official match before his appearance last night.

Forward satisfied with his debut last night

This extended run of not playing was broken 80 minutes into the game after Osasuna had already equalized the goal scored by Kounde for Barcelona at the end of the first half. Thus, Felix did not have much time to impress in this match as well.

Still, being able to step on the field was a move in the right direction for the Portuguese forward. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Felix himself was satisfied with his first minutes in a Barcelona jersey, as he shared on his social media.

The player wrote: “Very happy with the debut and the victory. Keep working, let’s go as a team,” and also uploaded some pictures of him playing in a Barcelona jersey.

Hopefully, Felix will be getting even more minutes in the season ahead. He has only this year to impress Xavi at Barcelona before his loan period ends, and he goes back to Atletico. So, he will have to make the best of this time to ensure he keeps playing with the Blaugrana for the coming seasons.
