Oscar Mingueza is one of the several players who made the jump from La Masia to the FC Barcelona first team, but were unable to keep their position at one of the world’s most competitive clubs.

The 24-year-old defender debuted for the first team in November 2020 under Ronald Koeman. He impressed in his earlier appearances with the Catalan club, but the presence of more competent and effective defenders than him meant he had to leave the club to keep on getting his desired game time.

Thus, he joined Celta de Vigo in 2022, and as SPORT has noted, Barcelona kept a clause for getting a 50% share of proceeds from a future sale in Mingueza’s contract, as they gave him a letter of freedom to join the fellow La Liga club.

Defender shining with Celta

His choice of Celta as his next destination is seemingly paying off, as the defender has started this season in great form. He has established himself as a firm starter at the right flank of Rafa Benitez’s team, and his good form was also observable from his performances when Celta visited the Montjuic stadium for the match against the Catalan giants last Saturday.

Mingueza has been impressive while playing both in a four-man or three-man backline this season and has started all six league games for his club. In the 540 minutes that the defender has played, he scored one goal, against Real Sociedad.

The great start to the season by Mingueza has not gone unnoticed, and the report from SPORT mentions that several eyes are focused on him, and offers may arrive in the coming months. As already mentioned, if Celta sell him, FC Barcelona would get one-half of the amount obtained from such a transfer.
