The victory against Celta Vigo in their last La Liga match will not be forgotten in a hurry by FC Barcelona fans. The team went down two goals before starting their comeback, which saw them win the game by a 3-2 score.

The victory ultimately did not only have an aesthetic importance for Barcelona, as it also allowed the club to claim the top spot in the league after Real Madrid lost to Atletico Madrid on the following night.

Barcelona create a new La Liga record

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that this victory had another special aspect which was not realized before. With this victory, Xavi’s Barcelona became the only team to have won a match despite being two goals down in the 80th minute in La Liga in the twenty-first century.

This record shows how difficult it was to overturn the two-goal deficit in the last fifteen minutes of the game. However, Barcelona were able to do that within only eight minutes, as this was the time needed by Lewandowski to score his brace and for Cancelo to score the third goal for La Blaugrana.

Barcelona also holds the record for Champions League

Meanwhile, Barcelona also holds a similar record for comeback in the UEFA Champions League. This record was created in the 6-1 victory of Paris Saint Germain, which is one of the most memorable nights for Barcelona fans despite the rich and varied history of the club in the premier European football competition.

That night, the Catalan giants scored their last three goals in the 88, 91, and 95th minutes, thus overcoming a huge deficit accumulated over two legs with Messi, Neymar, and Suarez leading the charge and Sergi Roberto scoring the last goal of the match at the last possible minute of added time.
