Deco wants Barcelona star duo to know the real reason for pursuing their renewals

Despite the progress made in the last few years, the finances of FC Barcelona are still a highly problematic matter for the Catalan club.

The club’s inability to get its income and expenditures in line with the regulations of La Liga has already caused it to operate with a minimal financial margin in the transfer window, and this problem is going to persist in the upcoming windows as well.

Barcelona were able to strengthen their squad to a significant extent in the last summer transfer window, but the task of the club executives to do so was made much more difficult because of the small economic margin they had to operate within.

Thus, the club spent only around €4 million on Oriol Romeu, and the rest of their signings were free transfers or free loans.

Barcelona need funds for Vitor Roque

Barcelona have seen their spending limits for the winter transfer window once again decreased by La Liga. This makes it difficult for the club to further improve their squad in the winter, while the club will also have to sell players in order to complete the planned transfer of Vitor Roque in January.

As already reported here, the club is expecting to receive €40 million from the German Libero Football Fund, and the reception of this payment is key for the club to incorporate Vitor Roque in January.

Barcelona duo’s renewal not aimed at incorporation of new players

This income gets even more important for the club as, according to Fernando Polo and Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo, Deco wants Marc Andre Ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong to know that their contract renewals are not being undertaken to incorporate new players into the squad.

Both these renewals are being undertaken because these two players are the cornerstones of the Barcelona project. Ter Stegen has been the starting goalkeeper for Barcelona for almost a decade now, and Frenkie de Jong is now growing as one of the most trusted players for Xavi in the midfield. The goalkeeper has already renewed his contract while Deco and Barcelona are negotiating for Frenkie’s renewal.

Thus, Barcelona will have to ensure they get their payments from the Libero Fund on time to ensure Xavi has Vitor Roque at his disposal for the second half of the season. Otherwise, they will have to sell players to generate funds, and the last summer window showed just how difficult such an approach can be.
