With more than two months to go, FC Barcelona are already preparing their moves for the winter transfer window. But the urgency of Catalans’ work for the January window is understandable as they face significant barriers from La Liga and their finances.

As already reported here, the main objective for the Catalans club in the January window is to incorporate Vitor Roque into the squad. However, this is not the only operation the club would be involved in.

Barcelona calculating the salary space to incorporate Roque

If everything remains normal in the coming months, the incorporation of Vitor Roque in the winter window would be the priority for Xavi and the sporting department of the club. However, Barcelona must also have reliable contingency plans for any emergency, and thus, the possibility of signing a defensive midfielder is also not ruled out.

Simultaneously, the Catalans want to regularize Gavi’s registration with La Liga. Currently, his eligibility hangs precariously due to a court ruling, necessitating the club’s urgent attention.

To carry on these operations, the Blaugranes are now calculating the salary space that they would need to register Vitor Roque and have also consulted La Liga for this purpose.

Barcelona need €13-14 million

According to SPORT, Barcelona understand that they will have to generate around €13-14 million in financial fair play to get Vitor Roque registered. The player will not have a very high salary in the first year at Barcelona, but his amortization costs will also have to be taken into consideration, taking the total cost upwards of €10 million.

Furthermore, registering Gavi would require similar amounts of space in FFP, and if the Catalans want to complete these two operations at once, they would require around €25 million in salary savings.

Player sales would be the most quickest and surest way of generating this amount but the squad is already quite thin, and Barcelona do not want to sell anyone in the winter.

Contract renewals with deferrals is another option, and the club wants Frenkie de Jong to commit to such a setup, but nothing is advanced in this regard as well.

However, If Barcelona get the €40 million from the Libero Football Fund or any other such entity, the Catalans would easily remain in line with the feasibility plan they have submitted to the league authorities.
