The young prospects within FC Barcelona run wild as they continue to showcase their worth. While some are now being hailed as game changers, there are others still waiting for their chance. Given the influx of talented players currently in the subsidiary, Barcelona are blessed, to say the least.

One of the most promising names, as per numerous reports, is that of Marc Bernal. The 16-year-old midfielder is among the names considered to be ascending the quickest within the Barcelona subsidiary. Despite his age, he has always remained one step ahead of the curve.

Catching Xavi’s attention

According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi Hernandez is now closely monitoring his progress himself. The Spanish coach believes that the young midfielder could be next in line for the Barcelona first team.

A player of immense potential, he arrived at La Masia aged only 6. Ten years later, he is now 16 and part of Barça’s surprisingly gifted 2006/2007 generation. The likes of Hector Fort, Marc Guiu, Pau Cubarsi, and even Lamine Yamal belong to those years mentioned.

Bernal’s abilities

Primarily a defensive midfielder, the youngster is currently a key part of Rafa Marquez’s side. Playing for Barcelona Atletic, the midfielder has found his groove and simultaneously also performs for the Juvenil side. Participating in the UEFA Youth League, he has been crucial to a side that aspires to win the entire competition.

Able to use both feet equally effectively, the left-footed defensive midfielder is quite versatile. Also capable of playing as an interior, as was experimented with recently, and even as an attacking midfielder, he possesses a great eye for goal.

World Cup opportunity

Interestingly, his physique is also exceptional for his current age group. Already standing at 1.88m tall, he has a special combination of strength, height, and technical ability.

He has also been regarded as one of the names within Barcelona most likely to be picked up for the Under-17 Spanish National team getting ready for the FIFA World Cup in Indonesia for the same category.

The player also signed his renewal with the Catalan club this summer. Now contracted to La Blaugrana until 2026, his current market value is estimated by Transfermarkt to be at €1 million.

This value can only grow from here given his meteoric progression, and even more so if he manages to get integrated within the first team dynamics.
