Barcelona were left quite devastated by the result of El Clasico on a mental level. The Catalan giants played well and arguably deserved to win. Ultimately, football did end up playing its cruel hand and cost Barcelona three points that they could have won on another day.

However, beyond the chatter of the fans, the feelings within the club are important. Beyond just the players, even the higher-ups tend to remain involved in such affairs. As a consequence, Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently held a meeting with Xavi Hernandez after the encounter itself.

Laporta meets Xavi

As highlighted by SPORT, there are certain feelings about the meeting that have emerged from the locker room. According to that information, the meeting between Laporta and Xavi was not too long and neither was it too serious.

Previous reports had claimed the encounter was a rather tense one, as well as a long one, but SPORT contradicts this.

In actuality, the conversation between the two also involved other important Barcelona figures. Rafa Yuste, Deco, Enric Masip, and Alejandro Echevarría were all present alongside the two key Barcelona figures during the meeting.

In terms of the actual contents of the meeting, it was the match that was ultimately discussed. Both the coach and president had a cordial encounter, one where they discussed the game and how Barcelona ended up losing.

Moreover, SPORT highlights that it was also rather light-hearted and Laporta valued the fact that Barcelona had been superior to Real Madrid for most part of the game.

Ballon d’Or ceremony

Other topics that were discussed between the Xavi and Laporta also involved the Ballon d’Or ceremony. Scheduled to take place later tonight in Paris, both the president and certain Barcelona players will travel to the award ceremony.

Alejandro Balde is a particularly significant name, given that he is among the strongest candidates for the Kopa Trophy.

As it stands, Barcelona currently sit in fourth place in La Liga EA Sports. With 24 points to their name, they are currently behind Real Madrid (28), Girona (28), and Atletico Madrid (25).

While it is still just early days in the campaign, Barcelona would do well to ensure that they begin to improve their standing sooner rather than later.
