FC Barcelona are still reeling from their defeat against Real Madrid in their last El Clasico. The Catalans are particularly hurt by the fact that they had the match firmly under their control for the most part, but were left undone by some of the decisions by the coaching staff and by their lack of luck in the second half.

There was a time of tension after this defeat, especially as one of the most important members of the Barcelona squad, Ilkay Gundogan, came out criticizing the team for their lack of anger and leadership right after the game.

Laporta angry with El Clasico defeat

According to SPORT, while Gundogan could not detect much anger in the dressing room, there was significant anger visible in Joan Laporta after the match. Their report mentions that the Barcelona President was highly upset after the match and expressed his disappointment to Xavi and the coaching staff privately.

Laporta is undoubtedly a fan of Barcelona, and he felt the defeat to their fiercest rivals very keenly. The President wants Barcelona to be a hegemon in the league, and for this purpose, has invested significant amounts of money into the squad over the last two years. With these additions, it was expected that Barcelona would retain the league title this year as well.

Laporta still full confidence in Xavi

However, while Barcelona’s performances in the Champions League have improved, they are not having as good a season domestically as they did last year. The loss to Real Madrid leaves them four points behind the top of the table, and the Catalans have a difficult schedule ahead till the end of the year, which will make things even more difficult for them.

Despite this anger, Laporta has absolute confidence in Xavi, and that is why he renewed the coach’s contract. However, Laporta now wants Xavi to ensure the squad gives their everything to get a maximum of points till the end of the year, so Real Madrid does not escape with the league title.
