While not the flashiest or silkiest of players on the pitch, Carles Puyol is still one of the biggest legends of FC Barcelona because of his commitment to the club, hardiness, resolve, and habit of giving his all to defend the club in any situation.

He is definitely one of the most beloved players to have played in the blue and garnet jersey and is respected not only by Barcelona fans but by football fans in general as well.

Puyol on Vinicius Junior

Despite this stature in the world of football, Puyol keeps a rather low profile and rarely appears in the headlines. However, he got into the spotlight as he appeared at a solidarity tournament and made some comments on football in Spain and on Barcelona in particular.

As SPORT has noted, his most notable comments on this occasion were about one of the players of Real Madrid, who recently beat Barcelona with a 2-1 win.

The player in question was Vinicius Junior, who has impressed everyone with his talent in recent years but whose antics on the pitch have become increasingly notable. Puyol had one particular advice for the Brazilian:

“I would love to talk to him as a fellow footballer and tell him what I think and how I feel. He’s a great player who makes a difference and should be admired on every field. If he changed his attitude, he would receive more recognition.”

Victory against Real Sociedad, Xavi, and Negreira case

Puyol also commented on Barcelona’s last victory against Real Sociedad, which he claimed was a great step for the Catalans:

“The victory in San Sebastian counts because it’s three points. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t analyze the game. I’m sure Xavi is doing that.”

Puyol went on to support his former teammate, Xavi Hernandez, in his role as the manager of Barcelona:

“Xavi knows the club, and we have to support him. But we know how it goes. At Barça, you have to win and play well. The demands are very high.”

Lastly, Puyol also commented on the alleged involvement of Barcelona in the Negreira case and claimed the club had not been favored by the referees in his time as a player:

“Barça hasn’t bought referees. I’m convinced of that. During my time, I didn’t feel like they were helping us; it was quite the opposite.”

Investigations about the Negreira case are still ongoing and nothing can be said about it at this point in time. However, Blaugranes are already being vilified for its involvement in the case, but Cules can remain assured that individuals like Carles Puyol will always be behind the club and defend it in any way they can.
