Despite the loss to Club America, FC Barcelona still managed to win 2023 with an official win. The game against Almeria was the final La Liga game of the year, and La Blaugrana managed to emerge victorious. However, many details about that Barcelona win have gone viral, especially the halftime teamtalk.

Reportedly, Xavi’s halftime teamtalk was arguably the harshest one he’s ever given. Directly pointing out the players that were performing under expectations, being frustrated with the collective display, Xavi was speculated to be angrier than he’s ever been.

Now, as reported by SPORT, Xavi has himself admitted to being a bit more forceful in that teamtalk. He admitted that he had to be honest and open with his team, and that there was definitely tension in the locker room during his speech.

Moreover, he reiterated that despite the more tense situation, the team responded well to the Barcelona coach:

“The team has reacted very well. We are united, a great family; the players are professionals, and the second half against Almería is the path we need to follow.”

Now, heading into the Christmas break, Xavi believes this is the right opportunity for his team to disconnect. A new year will soon begin for FC Barcelona, and the coach believes it will be promising:

“Now we take a break, a few days off, and a promising 2024 is approaching, which we face with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement.”

He also acknowledged that while Barcelona always remains in contention for titles, it will be a difficult task if his team does not deliver at their best level:

“We are Barcelona, and if we don’t all give our best, winning titles this season will be very difficult.”

The next game for Barcelona will be against UD Las Palmas in La Liga. Faces like Vitor Roque and even a returning Inigo Martinez are possible features for that game, and they will undoubtedly be great additions to Xavi’s underperforming squad.
