FC Barcelona brought in some highly noteworthy players in the last summer transfer window, including Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, and Joao Felix.

Another player who joined the Catalan club in the summer was Oriol Romeu, who, ironically, cost Barcelona more than the previously mentioned stars, who all joined Xavi’s squad for free.

FC Barcelona paid €3.4 million for the midfielder, while the player himself contributed some money from his pocket to materialize this move to his boyhood club.

Despite paying more for Romeu than the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, his signing looked like a bargain in the initial phases of the season, as he became a mainstay in Barcelona’s midfield.

However, after Frenkie’s injury, Romeu’s performances started declining, and he is now out of the starting eleven for Xavi. Still, despite the fall in his performances, he still has good demand in the Spanish market.

This is clear from the comments made by the President of Getafe, Angel Torres. The Madrid-based club is currently thin in midfield, as Mauro Arambarri is out with an injury, and Pepe Bordalas only has Luis Milla and Nemanja Maksimovic available to play in the midfield.

As Mundo Deportivo reports, Angel Torres made it clear that he will be looking to strengthen his team’s midfield, and in response to Romeu’s acquisition, he stated:

“In football, nothing is impossible. I’ve mentioned the Messi story many times. I could have brought him when he was 16. Football has difficult things but nothing is impossible.”

“We are working on four or five things that are very advanced. We’re waiting for the coach to come tomorrow or the day after and give approval. One or two reinforcements will come as long as the coach agrees.”

In addition to Romeu, Getafe are also looking at the former Barcelona midfielder, Ilaix Moriba, and Torres confirmed that he has been offered to his club:

“He’s one of the footballers who has been offered to us. The coach knows him. If we reach an agreement, it’s probable. First, we’re going to reinforce the midfield, and if possible, bring someone in for the wing to complete the squad. That’s all. We’re not going to go crazy either.”

For now, FC Barcelona are not looking for Romeu’s exit, as they already have a thin squad, and will need every player to compete in all their competitions. However, if the Catalans can bring in a midfield pivot, Getafe can be an attractive option for Romeu.
