Barcelona not willing to lose out on 17-year-old European pearl

It is quite evident that the new recruitment policy for FC Barcelona takes the focus away from global superstars. Instead, the Catalan giants have shifted their attention towards investing in the youth of tomorrow. For Barcelona, this seems to be the most sustained method of recruitment for now at least.

Many stars have followed these steps of incorporation recently, with Vitor Roque being a prime example. Despite just being 18 years of age, Barcelona believed in his potential to reach a certain high level instead of evaluating him based on his current output, which is also immense for a player his age.

Similarly, Barcelona have another developing young midfield prospect who they have a keen eye on. Lucas Bergvall, still aged just 17, is the latest of names to have caught the eyes of La Blaugrana. However, according to the latest information, the interest in Bergvall is unlike that of others.

In his case, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are extremely serious. As a matter of fact, this is one operation where La Blaugrana have already formally sent an offer as well and this is hardly surprising given the amount of attention that they are providing to this case.

Currently contracted to Swedish side Djurgarden, the young Swede is a midfielder with a lot of diverse qualities. Technically sound, physically strong despite his age, and quite the box-to-box threat, Bergvall ticks a lot of boxes for Barça.

The plan, in case he does end up being incorporated, would be to let him adapt in the subsidiary and make frequent jumps to the first team. Ultimately, Barcelona consider him an investment for the long term and would be more than delighted to have his services.

Moreover, the Catalan club has even been in contact with Djurgarden. The Swedish club’s Sporting Director, Bo Andersson, even previously confirmed this:

“Yes, I can confirm that we have been in contact and have been talking with Barcelona. But in my opinion, we have not yet started a negotiation. There was some contact with them last week, but this week we have not talked to them.”

At the moment, FC Barcelona have been made aware by the player’s circle that the Catalan giants remain his number one priority. However, the Blaugranes are set to face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Udinese. At the moment, Frankfurt’s offer for the player to his club is worth €8.5 million.

This exceeds Barça’s offer of €6.5 million, but it is also below Djurgarden’s asking price of €10 million. It will be interesting to see which direction this transfer saga takes, but Barcelona would ideally want it to be them who end up taking away the youngster.
