Xavi: “I told Mateu that I am satisfied with the current crop of players”

With the January transfer window approaching, FC Barcelona’s head coach, Xavi Hernandez, professed that he is gruntled with the current squad he has at his disposal and claimed that the word has already been conveyed to Barcelona’s Sporting Director Mateu Alemany Font.

“I told Mateu that I am satisfied with the current crop of players”, stated Xavi during his interview on Barca TV and club magazine. The coach added- “We are a family and I am happy with what I have. We train very well and that is seen on the field, due to attitude and solidarity. I am delighted with the players, and it’s fine if no changes are made.”, he confirmed.

Xavi also praised the efforts of the club management in the summer transfer window to improve the squad even after numerous restraints placed economically. “We have made a great squad due to the effort of the club and the levers”.

According to the gaffer, the squad is very much capable of bringing glory to the club by winning silverware. The coach is optimistic about the season and expects that the campaign resumes at the same level it was concluded on before the world cup began.

The early elimination of many Barcelona players have provided them ample time to rest and return with fresher legs after a hectic month with their national teams. Players like Ronald Araujo and Sergio Roberto have also received apt time to recover from their long-term injuries.

Given the fixture pileup and stacked schedules in the upcoming months, each player will be instrumental and necessary, as per the La Blaugrana coach. Given that the training has been excellent and the results are clearly visible on the pitch makes the gaffer and the fans of the historical club and institution even more hopeful that the titles are near.

Winning the league is an absolute priority for the coach following the early shock exit from the Champions league. “We were leaders and we must continue as leaders, we must not get off that car and consistency is the key,” he stressed.

Xavi also admittedly necessitated that self-criticism was required after the Champions League campaign ended in the group stages itself. “There was a lack of maturity. We didn’t take our chances against Bayern, and the same happened against Internazionale. We didn’t know how to bury our chances and be ruthless.”
