The last two days have not been easy on FC Barcelona in regards to injuries. First, it was Pedri who suffered from an injury after a hard tackle from Toni Kroos in the UEFA EURO 2024 quarter-final between Spain and Germany.
Then, the defender Ronald Araujo also suffered an injury as he went down to the ground without any prior contact in the match between Uruguay and Brazil in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa America.
While the extent of the injury suffered by Araujo remains to be seen, Mundo Deportivo reports that FIFA will have to compensate Barcelona for this issue if the defender remains on the sidelines for more than 28 days.
These payments will be made by FIFA through CONMEBOL, the organiser of the Copa America, under Player Protection Program, which has been in effect since the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
The compensation provided by FIFA depends on the fixed salary that a player gets from his club and is paid if players playing in international tournaments are injured, and need more than 28 days to recover from such a physical problem.
The coverage of players playing in international competitions starts from the moment that they report to their respective teams’ training facilities and ends at midnight of the day till their participation with the national team ends.
Clubs have a 28 day window from the occurrence of the injury to file their claims with FIFA, thus Barcelona can make a claim for Araujo’s injury till 3rd August.
While the Catalans will receive this monetary compensation from FIFA, losing players like Pedri and Araujo will still be a big blow if they are unable to participate in the upcoming pre-season, which will be the first time that Hansi Flick assesses the players available to him for the upcoming season.
