It seems that some incredible developments are now taking place at FC Barcelona. For weeks, there has been much speculation about what transfers Barça are going to ultimately pursue. However, it is now becoming more and more clear that Barcelona may go for something previously unimaginable.
The priority target, as per several reports, was reportedly Nico Williams of Athletic Club. Barcelona have been head over heels about him since quite a while now, but it is also true that they had some alternative options for him lined up just in case.
In terms of the ‘Plan B’ for Nico Williams, 26-year-old Dani Olmo was the player who was being mentioned. Moreover, reports connected to Barcelona even suggested that there was a divide within the club given that some people were willing to bet on Olmo while others preferred the 22-year-old Williams.
Now, however, the most explosive of updates has arrived in regards to both of them. According to Catalan journalist Gerard Romero, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has instructed club director Deco to fully close the signing of Nico Williams but also try to sign Dani Olmo as well at the same time.
Both of the two key Spanish stars from the country’s European Championship triumph are now active targets for FC Barcelona. The Catalan club is now looking to sign them simultaneously, and it is seen as something possible for Barça at this point in time.
Laporta has reportedly told Deco to ‘do everything possible’ to make the Spanish duo’s signing a reality. The Barcelona president is apparently trying to recreate the success of Spain at Barça, by unifying the two targets with 17-year-old La Masia prodigy Lamine Yamal.
Moreover, as per the words of Romero, Deco recently met with Williams’s representatives in Zaragoza. However, he is expected to soon meet the RB Leipzig star’s entourage as well and this could signal a lot of positive developments. At the moment, however, nothing has been reported beyond that.
As it stands, both Nico Williams and Dani Olmo are now being tailed by Barça. According to the information already available, the 22-year-old Athletic Club star’s €58 million release clause is close to the €60 million tag attached to Olmo. However, with Barça now looking to bring both players in, it may also be time to look at certain departures.
