The biggest summer saga that FC Barcelona have had to deal with this summer is apparent. While other transfer targets may come and go, the Catalan club had their eyes set on one player more than any other. Unfortunately for Barcelona, however, that saga has done nothing but eat up their time so far.

Nico Williams, one of the brightest spots for a Euro-winning Spain side and one of the biggest stars that Athletic Club has at the moment, was the main priority for Barcelona this summer. Fans and the club alike wanted his signing secured, but all that has happened so far has been delay after delay.

Waiting for his final decision has been tough and frustrating, but nothing could exactly be done about it. Instead, La Blaugrana have simply had to await the winger’s decision to commit to one option or another. The latest revelation regarding the transfer saga, however, will not exactly be music to Barça’s ears.

According to COPE, Nico Williams is set to stay at Athletic Club for one more season unless he drastically changes his mind. This information has reportedly been conveyed to French club Paris Saint-Germain by the player’s agent, Felix Tainta.

For right now, the player’s decision is leaning towards staying right where he is and only a radical change in his thought process will result in him signing for another club. According to previous reports, the player had already eliminated the option of PSG beforehand as his preference remains to stay in Spain.

That leaves behind only Athletic Club and FC Barcelona as his two major decisions. At the moment it seems that he has not chosen the latter due to various reasons, but it means that he wishes to not go back on the reported ‘promise’ he made to his current club and his brother, Inaki Williams.

As for Barça’s next step, it seems that the option of Dani Olmo will now get even more attention. Barcelona have already been working on that signing and negotiating with RB Leipzig to secure the player’s arrival, but the Bundesliga side have their own demands that they believe must be met first.
