FC Barcelona are forced to make some departures this season a priority for their own sake. The Catalan club has an urgent need to generate the adequate amount of financial fair play that is required to be able to register new signings and pre-existing players. However, departures have not been an easy hurdle to overcome for Barcelona.

While Barça may have had some level of success in taking care of certain exits, the most recent having been that of Julian Araujo to Bournemouth for €10 million, they had a bit more difficulty in solving other problems. Yet, there is one player who is leaving the club without any sort of transfer being involved at all.

Sergi Roberto, now aged 32, saw his contract expire during the summer and he is now no longer a player of Barcelona. However, while he may not be a contracted Barça player, Roberto still leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and support. Having been with the club for around 14 years, it is unquestionable that he feels a special connection to Barcelona.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the club will hold an event at the Auditori 1899 that will allow the player to say his parting words. The Spanish midfielder, known for the versatility that he possesses, will get his farewell on Tuesday after the Joan Gamper Trophy game between FC Barcelona and AS Monaco.

The date for the farewell is set for the 13th of August and will likely see some familiar faces attend it. While there may not be any official confirmation yet, it could also be possible that club president Joan Laporta also attends the player’s departing event and it could also be attended by some of his recent teammates.

As for what lies in the future for the player, there is essentially no confirmation as to where he would like to play. He does reportedly have offers on the table but he has not yet decided what direction he wants to take his career in. However, MD does state that the player has always wanted to try his luck in the English Premier League.
