Barcelona’s financial predicaments mean that most players in the squad are not guaranteed to stay at the club should a good offer come in. This gives other clubs a chance to swoop in and steal players by taking advantage of the club’s situation.

Ilkay Gundogan looks set to be sacrificed this summer with the player’s departure to Manchester City on a free transfer imminent. There are also players like Clement Lenglet in the squad who do not feature in Hansi Flick’s plans.

Now, as per SPORT, Girona continue to wait in the hope that they might be able to sign Eric Garcia this summer. The La Liga side will hold out until deadline day looking to jump at the opportunity should it arise like last season.

The 23-year-old Spaniard spent last season on loan at Girona and was one of the best central defenders in La Liga. He also showed his versatility by often playing on the right side of defense and holding his own in an unfamiliar role.

His performances have earned him the opportunity to feature under Hansi Flick. Garcia was a second-half substitute for Barcelona in their La Liga season opener against Valencia. He played as a pivot after coming on in place of Marc Bernal.

Barcelona haven’t made a pivot signing this summer and are unlikely to in the remaining days. This makes Eric’s role in the squad all the more important. Having someone who can play in three different positions is pure gold.

The La Masia graduate might have often been ridiculed when playing for Barcelona but there is a reason that he has been trusted by managers like Pep Guardiola, Ronald Koeman, Xavi and now Hansi Flick.

This season could be make or break for the 23-year-old. He has all the attributes to succeed in a Barcelona shirt and let’s hope he takes this chance. Considering all this, Girona might not be able to land the player this summer. Only time will tell us how this plays out.
