Barcelona have a unique release clause for 17-year-old La Masia pivot

It is no secret that FC Barcelona have had to deal with their financial problems in many different ways. These ways have even included the club having to sacrifice key players for less-than-ideal payouts in return. However, the goal is to ultimately help Barcelona become great again, and certain measures must be taken for that.

One of the ways that La Blaugrana are continuously trying to keep their sporting integrity and quality consistent is through their own homegrown youngsters. By relying on their young individuals, the club hopes to keep their books balanced while also having some great talents representing them.

However, it is often quite an attractive opening for other clubs to try to poach young talents early on. Fortunately, FC Barcelona has almost always been overprotective about their brightest youngsters and has even given many of them massively high release clauses to ensure that their sale does not happen without the club’s approval at least.

The case of 17-year-old Marc Bernal’s release clause, however, is rather unique compared to his teammates. According to Mundo Deportivo, the young La Masia pivot does not have a fixed release clause as of yet and it is instead a progressively increasing one that continues to rise as per certain sporting milestones.

It starts off at the €20 million mark, which is standard for Barcelona Atletic players, and it will rise by an additional €5 million once he plays five games for the first team. This new €25 million release clause would then increase by another €5 million ten games later, and then by another €5 million to reach the €35 million mark after fifteen more games following the last milestone.

It must be noted, however, that games in this case would only be counted if he manages to contribute to a match for at least 45 minutes or more. Games in which he plays less than that designated time will possibly not be counted in the increase of his standard release clause.

Even then, the final €35 million valuation would be considered a bargain for a player of his quality and if he does indeed manage to string together that many games. That is why, keeping in mind his immense potential, Barcelona have the option to change his subsidiary record into a first team one at will.

While this will require giving the player a higher salary to match the cases of similar players in the first team, it would also allow the club to exponentially increase his release clause relative to his other first team teammates as well. Ultimately, Barcelona have gone to great lengths to ensure that Bernal’s future remains within their grasp no matter what.
