Despite the win over Rayo Vallecano, the last 24 hours have not been good for Barcelona fans. Their worst fears were confirmed when 17-year-old La Masia prodigy Marc Bernal was confirmed to have torn the ACL on his left knee.

The entire Barcelona contingent was hoping against hope that the prognosis would be different from what was initially feared but unfortunately, that was not the case. Messages of gratitude poured from the footballing fraternity for Bernal.

Just 17 years of age, Bernal looked like the next big thing coming out of La Masia. He was incredible in Barcelona’s three games so far and even against Rayo, he had a brilliant second half that would have made Sergio Busquets proud.

It’s such a shame that the talented youngster’s campaign had to be cut short prematurely but Bernal has a lot of time in his hands to make a complete recovery. That however isn’t going to happen for the next 12 months.

Marc Bernal has now put out a message on Social Media, thanking everyone for their wishes and admitting that he was already thinking about recovery. Here is what the message read:

“Thinking about recovery. Many thanks for the support Culers”

Bernal’s mentality is evident in this scenario. He could have easily gone into a shell dismayed by the injury he had just suffered but the 17-year-old is made differently. He is already thinking about a comeback.

The most important thing for Bernal right now is ensuring that he rests well and makes a complete recovery. Before this, of course, he will have to undergo a surgical procedure, and let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope it goes perfectly.

We have already seen how surgeries can ruin a player’s career in the case of Ansu Fati who is still reeling from the effects of what happened three seasons ago. With Marc Bernal, we need to ensure that the same mistakes are not made again.

The team will now have to continue their season without Bernal. It is unlikely to be straightforward and let’s see what solutions Flick & co. come up with to make up for the 17-year-old’s absence.
