At this point, it is very difficult to understand what is going on with Barcelona and their finances and who they can afford and who they cannot. Just a few hours ago, it emerged that the Catalan club was unable to sign Stefan Bajcetic from Liverpool due to FFP issues.

However, over the past couple of hours, interest in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is increasing. We just covered a story revealing agent Pini Zahavi’s quotes on trying to find his client an amicable solution amid his desire to leave the club.

Now, as per reliable German reporter Florian Plettenberg, Barcelona are willing to pay €20m for Jonathan Tah this summer but Bayer Leverkusen do not plan to entertain anything below €30m. The club has not even started looking at replacements.

Barcelona sporting director Deco has personally communicated to Bayer Leverkusen the Catalan club’s interest in signing the 28-year-old. The defending Bundesliga champions are keen to keep hold of Tah this summer and that remains the plan. Bayern continue to monitor the situation as they wait for Kingsley Coman’s departure before making a move.

Irrespective of all the tangibles, final decisions are expected to be made today. How Barcelona have the room to sign Jonathan Tah when they supposedly don’t have the room for Bajcetic is something that is not comprehensible.

This just serves as yet another timely reminder to take everything that comes out in the media with a pinch of salt because one doesn’t really know what is going on behind the scenes. Tah feels like an attempt at an emergency acquisition from Barcelona to make up for the loss of central defenders to injury.

It remains to be seen if anything comes of this supposed interest in Tah between now and the end of the transfer window. There isn’t long left and let’s see if Barcelona make an actual attempt to sign the 28-year-old.
